You have to learn to do both, think strategically and take consistent action.
- Strategic Thinking: Be clear about what you want.
- Committed Action: You have to wake up every day and take a step in that direction
To achieve your goals, you must get consistent with your morning(s).
Focus on the Why
- Your mornings are your best chance to see how you show up. Your morning routine should represent who you want to become, not who you are.
- Every morning, when you wake up, the clock resets, and you can show up for yourself daily.
Tough Love Section
Mel loves her morning routine so much, she calls it “The Million Dollar Morning”.
Behaviourial Activation Therapy
It is a branch of psychology that focuses on how someone’s environment shapes their actions and, therefore, their mental health. By deliberately practicing certain behaviors, people can “activate” a positive emotional state.
If you want to change, start acting like the person you want to be in the future right now in your day to day life. The actions you take today are what will turn you into what you want to become.
A morning routine is like the first domino. It is like the beginning domino that falls. If you morning routine sucks, the first domino that falls is procrastination, stress, anxiety, and worry which tend to trigger more of that.
The solution to almost all the issues in your life is your morning routine.
How you set your day up is how it ends up.
Old Mel was addicted to her excuses, alcoholism, feeling miserable, and complaining about he problems. The first decision old Mel used to make in the morning was hitting the snooze button.
Procrastinating on your life. Avoiding what we need to do and dealing with the challenges of our life. We begin to embody our excuses, fears, frustrations and fatigue.
Avoiding the Hard Stuff.
You are one decision away from a different life.
Your Morning Routines are the simple series of promises that make you who you are. The morning routine makes you more of who you are. The foundation to an incredible life are simple promises, commitment and discipline.
Rule 1: When the alarm rings get yourself out of bed.
Building Integrity with Yourself
- If you can keep the promise of getting out of bed when the alarm rings, how would you follow through on the other hard stuff.
Sleep Inertia
It is a state that your brain gets trapped in for four hours after you hit the snooze button. Sleep inertia is a temporary disorientation and decline in performance and/or mood after awakening from sleep.
Rule 2: Make Your Bed
- The second domino that falls is completion. Making your bed is a way of giving a future you a gift.
Rule 3: Hi-five yourself in the mirror.
- After brushing your teeth, take a moment and look at your future you in the mirror.
Rule 4: Move your body and move your mind
- According a recent research study, moderate exercise (or ten minutes of brisk walking a day) was associated with a three year increase in life expectancy, while 22 minutes of brisk walking could increase life expectancy by as much as five years.
Rule 5: Make little progress daily
Progress Principle: Of all the things that can boost emotions, motivation, and perceptions during a workday, the single most important is making progress in meaningful work. And the more frequently people experience that sense of progress, the more likely they are to be creatively productive in the long run.
It is not about getting things done, it is about making progress on things that really matter.
All the best in your quest to get better. Don’t Settle: Live with Passion.
